Cantiga Mozárabe, Op. 79 AI SI 001 for Oboe (or Oboe d'Amore) and Piano Leonard Salzedo Written in 1970 for Jennifer Paull, this piece tells the story of a Sephardic musician in exile in medieval Spain, whose soul is crying out in anguish for his origins. The Oboe d'Amore (oboe) and the piano are independent of each other - playing together yet separated in idiom - just as the musician in his land of circumstance, not choice. The Cantiga is an old poetic composition intended to be sung. It was very often in praise of the Virgin Mary as are the four hundred and twenty cantigas attributed to King Alfonso the Wise. They were mostly written in the Galician language. Mozárabe refers to the period before 1492 when Spain was under Moorish rule. It was during this period that the Arabic music had its influence on the native Spanish music. Leonard Salzedo Amoris scores are exclusively available in traditional bound format with global postal distribution and secure payment from Crowther's of Canterbury. Our full downloadable library is being prepared. |
